I carved this one from silvercloud Alabaster, which I found to be an excellent stone for carving. I felt like I had a lot of control while working this stone, as it was almost completely free of any imperfections and did not break apart unpredictably in large chunks, as I have experienced with some other alabasters that I have experimented with.
Maud measures about 5.25 inches tall, not including the wood base which is made of curly maple (almost 6” with the base), and about 4” by 9” at the base of the stone. She weighs about six pounds, down from almost 25 and a half pounds for the original rock I started with. This piece took about 56 hours of work over a period of a few months to complete.
